Attendance and Health Policy

It is our desire that our children get the most out of CHELC activities. This necessitates regular attendance to scheduled classes. However, a sick child does not retain knowledge and is a hindrance to the learning of other students. The following guidelines are to help you decide if your child should attend class or other CHELC functions:

A Child With the Following is Too Sick to Attend:

  • Fever over 99.5
  • Dry cough – if child is not able to cover without assistance
  • Wet cough
  • Runny nose – if child is not able to use tissue without assistance
  • Nausea/Vomiting – in the last 24 hours
  • Any contagious condition you are aware of
  • General malaise (doesn’t have energy, feels bad)

It is okay to bring a child who feels fine but is:

  • On antibiotics (for at least 24 hours) for an infection
  • An older child (at least 4th grade) with a mild cold who can keep it to themselves – cover mouth and nose, use tissue without being told or helped
